New Easter Bilby book ready for launch

MOUNT Gambier Library is inviting local families to celebrate the launch of the third book in the much-loved Easter Bilby’s Friends series.

Just in time for Easter, children’s author Kristin Martin and local illustrator Bianca Richardson will introduce Belle and Bea’s Beautiful New Home on Sunday, March 22 at 11am.

Belle and Bea’s Beautiful New Home continues the Easter Bilby’s Friends tradition of sharing an important environmental message through exploring how introduced wild rabbits impact native plants and animals.

It shows young readers how they can help care for their environment. In this new adventure, Easter Bilby is taking Belle and Bea to their new home.

Reflecting on the local response to the series including Honey Possum’s Bush Cafe and Banjo Frog’s Concert Spectacular, Mount Gambier artist and illustrator Bianca Richardson says the community’s enthusiasm has played an important role in its success.

“The community support we have received for the Easter Bilby’s Friends series has been amazing – especially with our previous book becoming the top seller at Collins Booksellers Mount Gambier in 2025,” Bianca said.

“Creating these characters is a joy and knowing that they help create awareness on such an important conservation message makes it even more meaningful.”

Author Kristin Martin was excited to read the new book at the launch in March.

“I can’t wait to show everyone the felt hand puppets I’ve made to match the characters. We’ll be looking for volunteers to use them at the launch – it will be lots of fun,” Kristin said.

Team leader children’s and youth services Erin Jones said the library team was thrilled to bring this story with a local element to the community, highlighting the value of nurturing imagination, creativity and fostering a love of literacy from an early age.

“We are proud to support local creative talent and celebrate stories that spark imagination, curiosity and a love of reading,” Erin said.

The book launch is a family-friendly event featuring an interactive reading followed by a fun craft activity.

Belle and Bea’s Beautiful New Home will be available for purchase and signing on the day. No bookings are required. For more details, visit the Mount Gambier Library website at www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au/library and look under ‘Programs and Events’.
