THE South East Art Society (SEAS), a local collective of creatives will present the SEAS Open Art Awards at The Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre from May 9.

The SEAS Open Art Awards are open to all artists across Australia, filling the Riddoch galleries with art across a range of media and styles.

In this year’s Open Art Awards visitors to the gallery will have the opportunity to view new works alongside the works by previous winners of the Open Art Prize.

Director of the Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre and Cultural Development Ashleigh Whatling said the South East Art Society has played a vital role in nurturing the region’s creative community for decades.

“The South East Art Society has a significant history of supporting and exhibiting local artists across the Limestone Coast for over 60 years,” Ms Whatling said. “This year The Riddoch is delighted to host the annual Open Art Awards and recognise the prize’s previous entrants and winners with an accompanying exhibition.”

Riddoch curator Chris Clements encourages local art enthusiasts and visitors to vote for their favourite piece in this celebration of local artists.

“Join us at The Riddoch for the South East Art Society’s Open Art Awards and make your contribution to the People’s Choice Award,” Mr Clements said. “This year we are thrilled to celebrate the expansive history of SEAS alongside the current entrants, sharing past entries and award winners from the historic prize.”

The public is invited to attend for the opening of the exhibition on Friday, May 8, at 6pm with doors opening at 5.30pm.

Throughout the duration of the exhibition two collections tours will be offered.

Join curator Chris Clements at 12.30pm on Friday, May 22, or assistant curator Saskia Scott at 12.30pm on Friday, June 5, for a personal and insightful tour of The Riddoch collection.

Places are limited for this experience and bookings are essential.

The Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre is open 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 2pm weekends and public holidays. Entry is free.
