Seaside skate competition
THE District Council of Grant and YMCA are teaming up to host a skateboarding, scooter and BMX competition as part of Youth Week and the April school holidays.
The event will be held at the Port MacDonnell Skate Park on Sunday, April 12, from 11am to 4pm.
All ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate, with Under 10s, Under 13s, Under 16s and open categories.
Medals will be awarded to the top three competitors across each category and all participants are entered into a raffle draw.
Community members are also welcome to attend as spectators for a day of fun and excitement.
This event builds on the success of 2025’s Learn to Skate and Scoot sessions held in Tarpeena and Port MacDonnell facilitated by Y Action Sports and demonstrates the enthusiasm of regional youth for the social, physical and wellbeing benefits of skate park culture.
Manager of Y Action Sports Matthew Brett said Skate Park Leagues give people of all walks of life the opportunity to come together and use the council’s facility in a positive and meaningful way.
“The inclusion and support we see at each event is amazing and a testament to the skate park communities,” he said.
The competition is taking place during Youth Week, South Australia’s largest annual celebration of young people aged 12 to 25.
The week aims to spotlight youth creativity and passion with a range of events and activities throughout the state.
District Council of Grant Mayor Kylie Boston said this event was the perfect occasion to bring people together from across the district.
“It’s an opportunity for young people to showcase their skills, build new connections, and feel supported by their community, which is at the heart of Youth Week,” Mayor Boston said.
The competition forms part of YMCA’s state-wide Skate Park Leagues and is delivered in partnership with AusCycling and Skate Australia.
The event gives young skaters the opportunity to earn points towards the 2026 South Australian Regional Series League Ladder and a shot at the National Championships.
Registration is free and essential for participants. To register online, visit the YMCA website at https://skatepark.ymca.org.au/competitions-and-events/skate-park-leagues.
