Mayor Kylie Boston and Deputy Mayor Brad Mann are all smiles as the District Council of Grant launches its new Township Festive Celebration Grants helping communities come together this season.

THE District Council of Grant is ready to spread the festive cheer with the launch of a new small grants program aimed to support community-led Christmas celebrations.

The Township Festive Celebrations Grant Program offers funding of up to $250 per township to help local communities host events that bring people together and celebrate the festive season.

Council’s Awards Advisory Committee chair and Deputy Mayor Brad Mann said the initiative recognises the importance of connection during the holidays.

“This is a simple but meaningful way for council to support our communities across the district to celebrate in their own unique way, whether that’s with a barbeque, a street party or decorating the town together,” Cr Mann said.

“Through this program, we hope to see our townships light up with festive spirit and community pride.”

The Township Festive Celebrations Grants are available to incorporated community groups who are planning community events within the District Council of Grant area that are open to all community members to attend.

Eligible expenses may include items such as food for a barbeque or sausage sizzle, decorations and festive displays, modest entertainment and activities such as face painting, or venue hire and event setup costs.

Chief executive officer Darryl Whicker said the new program complements council’s broader focus on creating a connected, inclusive, resilient and engaged community.

“Many of our townships already host wonderful festive events each year. This program helps strengthen those traditions while also encouraging new ones to emerge,” Mr Whicker said.

“It’s about supporting local people to create spaces and moments that make their communities proud.”

Community groups are encouraged to find out more and apply online at www.dcgrant.sa.gov.au/community/communitygrants.
