WITH the first Saturday competition of the month, it was Monthly Medal time at the Mount Gambier Golf Club with Max Medhurst Crash Repairs sponsoring the day.

Continuing his good form from Thursday C Grader (17.0 – 45.0) Cameron Buchanan (30) had the best score of the day to earn his way into the playoffs for the Barney Larkin Medal of Medals early next year.

Cameron shot 6 under his handicap on the front nine with four pars, one bogey and three double bogies.

A par on the tough par 3 tenth set him on his way on the back nine which also included four bogies and four double bogies for him to finish at nett 64.

Runner up both in C Grade and overall was Samuel Byron (20) with a nett 65.

Byron turned 2 under his handicap, before having a good run home comprising of three pars and six bogies.

Lock (pictured) made three birdies throughout his round which also had six pars, eight bogies and a solitary mishap of a double bogey on the second hole.

Travis Holland (16) was second in B Grade with a nett 68.

It was Holland’s back nine which catapulted him up the leaderboard after firing a 1 over the card 37 off the stick.

This was made up of two bogies, six pars and a birdie on the par 4 twelfth.

Tim Kenny (9) took out A Grade (-9.0 – 10.0) with a nett 68.

He was followed by John Sandery (24) and Andrew Birks (17) both finishing on 68 and Daniel Long (16) scoring 69 points.

A score of nett 74 or better on a countback was needed to claim one of the additional ball prizes.

Birdie balls proved popular with 14 being earned by some of the 111 players in the field with Pro shot winners being Peter Lock (13) on the eighth hole and Gary Wilson (8) on the sixteenth.

DECEMBER 4 RESULTS

Thursday’s stableford competition saw a congested leaderboard with countbacks required to split the top 18 players who all finished within four points of each other.

Dempsey took out the $100 Pro Shop voucher with splits of 18 points on the front and 23 points on the back nine.

Dempsey played flawless golf on his way in shooting a one over the card 37 off the stick, with eight pars and a solitary bogey on the par 4 seventeenth.

Massey must wonder what he needed to do to win, after shooting a 3 under the card 33 off the stick on the front nine which had six pars and birdies on the first, third and fourth holes.

He then shot a one under 35 on the back with six pars, birdies on the fifteenth and seventeenth, and a bogey on the fourteenth, to claim the $50 Pro Shop voucher.
