Panagopoulos victory
WINTER has hit with a vengeance starting from the previous weekend and kudos to the eight ladies taking to a very waterlogged Blue Lake course for the 1st round of the Marlene Lingham Memorial Trophy proudly sponsored by new 2026 sponsor Callum Morrison Construction.
Four rounds are played in stableford format with the best three used to determine an eventual winner.
Marlene was one of the first in a group of ladies to play at the Blue Lake Golf Club, starting when it was a nine-hole course and was often seen behind the scenes with husband Russell, who was on the main committee holding many offices.
Marlene retired and was then able to play golf on Wednesdays and became involved with the women’s committee, before she sadly passed away in 2019.
The winner of the stableford competition was Karen Panagopoulos with 30 points, playing off her 21 handicap with splits of 17/13 that Included a par on the 16th.
Trudy Herbert was runner up only after a countback with Sue Agars, both posting 29 points.
Herbert won the voucher with splits of 14/15 off her 34 handicap.
Agars played off 20 and did claim a few pars 11, 12 and 14th and a fine birdie on the 1st in her 15/14 splits. BB9 Winner Herbert.MAY 30 RESULTS
Once again the weather forecast was a bit ambiguous as to whether it was going to be better to play early morning or mid morning.
As it turned out those later tee off times halfway through their round got hit with a hailstorm, rain and high intense wind gusts.
There were 26 women in the field and it was pleasing to see Colleen Tilley coming in a winner with 33 points.
Tilley is working on her 45 handicap and is determined to lower it.
Her scorecard showed splits of 19/14 that saw five three-pointers and a four-pointer.
The runner up was Lee Anderson signing for 32 points off her 38 handicap with two three-pointers and a four-pointer in her 17/15 splits.
Third was Jayne Galpin after forcing a countback with Annette Ford both with 31 points.
Galpin played off 17 and had three three-pointers along with a four-point birdie on the 14th in her splits of 13/18.
Those in the ball rundown were Judy Hunter 30, Rosemary Martland 29, Anita Klem 28, Carol Downing 27 c/b Cherryl Hill 27.
Nearest to the pin and pro-shot winner was Ronda Edwards (1.53) Klem was the BB9 winner.
