Reigning premiers show no mercy to sister team
CENTRAL MERCIES SISTER TEAM IN 7
Central was too strong for their sister team in Division 1 baseball at Blue Lakes Sports Park on Saturday.
Barring the first inning, Central scored runs in all the next six innings whilst keeping the Magpies scoreless.
In the second dig Koby Chant’s flyball to centerfield was grassed and he was batted in by Patrick O’Hehir when he hit safely also to centerfield.
In the next inning Kyall McClean picked a base on ball and was batted in by Nathan Meinck whose sacrifice fly was caught at rightfield.
Two runs in the fourth advanced their score to four.
Alex Ridding cracked a safe hit to centerfield, who was having a very busy day, Patrick O’Hehir followed with a shot that landed safely in leftfield, Colby Muller’s sacrifice fly again to centerfield scored Ridding and Dylan Chuck’s crunch to leftfield saw O’Hehir cross the plate.
In the fifth Dylan Gull was aboard after an error and was home on another sacrifice fly to centerfield.
In the final two innings, Central upped the anti, scoring three and four runs respectively.
Dylan Chuck drew a walk, Kyall McClean crunched a safe hit to centerfield scoring Chuck with good baserunning, Dylan Gull hit long to leftfield scoring McClean and Koby Chant’s clutch hit to rightfield scored Gull.
In the final inning, Colby Muller picked up a safe hit to rightfield, Dylan Chuck again on board, this time from a wild throw, Kyall McClean at first on a fielder’s choice and the same for Dylan Gull.
Muller scored on a wild throw as did Chuck also McClean and repeat for Gull giving the win to Central twelve runs to nil.
Central had 9 safe hits, 5 base on ball, 5 runs batted in and 1 strikeout. Magpies had 4 safe hits, 5 base on ball, 1 hit batter, 4 strikeouts and made 5 errors.
SOUTH INDIANS OVERHAUL TIGERS
South Indians overhauled Tigers in the fifth inning and hung on for a win in the late game of Division 1 baseball at Blue Lake Sports Park on Saturday.
The Indians were first away in the bottom of the first innings. Lead off batter Ben Nash singled to centerfield, Zac Ratcliffe picked a walk, with both batter/runners scoring on fielder’s choice.
Ryan Walter hit safely to leftfield and was batted in by Brent Masterman.
Tigers fought back with two in the top of the second. Consecutive walks to Joe Sims and Pat Kermond saw them both score, Sims on a passed ball and Kermond on a wild pitch.
South pushed the lead out by four more in the bottom of the second.
Phoenix Cole onboard on an error, consecutive safe hits to Ben Nash and Zac Ratcliffe with Ratcliffe batting in Cole, Ryan Placucci hit into an infield error which saw Nash cross the home plate and Linkon Ratcliffe’s crunch to rightfield scored both Zac Ratcliffe and Placucci.
The Indians leading seven runs to two. More walks for Tigers in the top of the third with Riley Parsons and Cooper Pitkin on the receiving end.
Parsons scored on a passed ball, Jake England landed at first base on a wild throw, Pitkin was batted in by Matt Thompson and England touched home on a sacrifice fly from Joe Sims. South up by two runs.
The orange and black piled on four runs in the fifth.
Jake England at first on an error, consecutive safe hits to Matt Thompson and Joe Sims with the latter batting in both England and Thompson, Pat Kermond hit safely to centerfield allowing Sims to score and Koby Stratman’s Texas Leaguer to centrefield scored Kermond.
Tigers now in front by two runs. The red and white not to be outdone mirrored Tigers effort scoring four of their own.
Bradley Meek picked a base on ball, consecutive hits into errors by Wade Chant and Phoenix Cole with Meek crossing on Cole’s hit.
Chant scored when Ben Nash’s hit slid out to rightfield, Ryan Placucci dobbed a long two bagger to centerfield which saw both Cole and Nash rushing home.
With no further runs scored in the final three innings it left the win to South Indians eleven runs to nine.
South Indians had 13 safe hits, 5 walks, 2 hit batters, 8 runs batted in, 7 strikeouts and made 6 errors. Tigers had 10 safe hits, 6 walks, 5 runs batted in, 7 strike outs and made 6 errors.RESULTS:
