Stratford tops Anzac Day event

PERFECT autumn weather once again greeted the 25 women teeing up in the third and final qualifying round of the Cafe Belgiorno sponsored Handicap Championships at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week with the quarter finals to be played this week.

Two best nett scores of the three rounds are used to claim a spot in the top eight qualifiers for Division One and Two.

The course was set to its maximum length and although there was plenty of fairway run pars were hard to come by for the majority.

The stroke competition was sponsored by the Park Hotel.

Division One winner was women’s captain Ronda Edwards 93/17/76 scoring 48 strokes on the outward nine unable to make any pars coming home with pars on the15th and 16th holes in her 45 strokes.

Runner up was Annette Ford signing for 104/27/77 with splits of 54/50 that was good enough to claim second place voucher after a countback from third place Helen Myers 94/17/77 who had two even nines of 47/47 that Included pars on 4th, 5th and 15th holes.

Trudy-Anne Doyle who is a regular in the placings for division two took the top prize voucher after forcing a three-way countback with Lyn Annand and Vivienne Wilson signing for nett 74.

Doyle had splits of 56/52 off her 34 handicap, Annand had splits of 59/52 off her handicap of 37 that Included a par on the 12th.

Wilson had splits of 53/54 off her 33 handicap.

Other placegetters were Lucy Richards nett 76 and Bev Pascoe nett 78.

Nearest to the pin 2nd shot on 2nd winners were Rosemary Martland (.58) and Carol Downing (2.60).APRIL 25 RESULTS

Twenty-four women played in the Jetts Fitness Centre sponsored Monthly Medal stroke competition enjoying the sunny weather taking advantage of the continued run on the fairways.

That applies especially to the winner Helen Stratford, not only winning the Monthly Medal, but also topping the overall leaderboard on the day signing for 90/22/68 with splits of 43/47 that Included pars on the 4th, 8th and 15th holes and attributes her good score when able to finish off around the greens with her flat stick for a change.

Following was Rosemary Martland also scoring well off her 13 handicap 87/74 that Included a fine birdie on the 1st and pars on 5th and 15th.

Next was Bernadette Pedlar following up her previous week’s win signing for 105/31/74 after a countback with Martland.

Pedlar’s splits of 52/53 Included a par on the dog-leg 15th.

Fourth was Colleen Tilley after a four-way countback signing for 120/45/75.

Other placegetters were Kate Brown 75, Wendy Burley 75 c/b Helen Myers 75, Ronda Edwards 76 c/b Vivienne Wilson 76.

Nearest to the pin on 5th with a birdie Ronda Edwards (2.30). long drive winner Stratford and least putts Stratford (25).
