A WORKSHOP delving into the process of creative writing led by musician, writer, journalist and disability advocate Eliza Hull will take place at Bendigo Library on 23 August.

It’s part of a series funded by Schizy Inc to support those living with complex or diverse mental health issues.

As a musician, Castlemaine-based Hull has released five EPs. She is also ABC Victoria’s disability arts reporter, has written and edited a number of books and is a regular presenter at universities and Schools.

She said the workshop will be welcoming and inclusive.

“There’s no right or wrong, it’s a safe space,” she said. “Feeling good to be there and not feeling like you’re going to be judged is a really big part of what I do in my workshops. “You can be somebody that’s never written anything in your whole life or somebody that is a seasoned writer, and both are just as valued.”

Hull said her personal storytelling began as a young person, but it wasn’t until she tapped into her experiences that she felt her writing shifted in a positive way. “I’ll be talking about how we all have stories within us,” she said.

“Once we share who we are through our storytelling, it can become really powerful and meaningful and purposeful and really help others.”
