Ferne Millen’s studio is in Jan Juc on the Surf Coast.
She has many valued local clientele, but has travelled extensively throughout Australia and overseas to help clients realise the essential vision and image they have for their business operations.
Her passion for clients is to capture the defining image or set of images that say “this is us” or “this is me”; a process achieved by meaningful collaboration with each client, to be able to offer a professional service, underpinned by high standards of artistic excellence and performance.
Ferne is a creative entrepreneur with 25 years of experience in photography, art-direction, creative consultation and event management.
Her career began on the Surf Coast in 2000 as a photojournalist while completing six years at the Vic College of Arts, graduating with majors in photography and theatre studies.
Her professional qualifications, together with her intuitive and creative ability, enables her to bring a holistic approach to her photography.
This approach involves critical judgments on design and visual impact as well as technical skill.
Ferne’s portfolio has expanded to include clients with a diverse range of commercial interests from City of Melbourne, Geelong Arts Centre, Mushroom Records, Tennis Australia and Volkswagen.
She also works with talented innovators and entrepreneurs on the Surf Coast.
Her art practice and portrait photography continues to gain momentum having been selected as a finalist in The National Photographic Portrait Prize, a dual finalist in The Moran Prize and winner of the Queenscliff photography prize.
Her portrait of Archie Roach was purchased for the permanent collection at Deakin University.
Ferne has a diverse practice which takes her professionally to many unique events, including private dinner functions involving artists and musicians.
She is active in cultural art projects such as Journey on Wadawurrung Country, which is an immersive exhibition/ installation and collaboration between Wadawurrung Traditional Owners.
This has been touring Wadawurrung country these past three years and hopes to makes its debut on the Surf Coast next year.
