Photography focused on sharing women’s brilliance with the world
Leslie Carvitto has been taking photos for as long as she can remember, but she never anticipated making a career out of it.
After graduating university with a Public Relations degree, Leslie worked in various corporate roles, but could not find the right fit.
In 2017, the passionate creative left her full-time job in marketing to create something of her own.
“Deep down, I knew there was something more for me.
I had been daydreaming about working for myself for a while, but was nervous about leaving the security of a full time job and felt paralysed by self-doubt,” she said.
“What if I’m not good enough? What if nobody hires me? What if turning my passions into my job is a huge mistake?
“Needless to say, I finally did make a decision, and it’s completely changed my life.”
Leslie moved from Seattle to Melbourne in 2019, and relocated to the Surf Coast in January 2020.
Her move across the world changed the direction of her business.
“When I moved to Melbourne I was doing photography and also assisting small businesses (all women owned) with their marketing, copywriting, and social media,” she said.
“I loved helping women build their brand, but realised that photography was what really lit me up.
“I slowly began to let those jobs go to make space for more photography work.”
Her focus became personal brand and lifestyle photography, a natural choice after years of working with female entrepreneurs and creatives.
Leslie has worked with hundreds of women, a majority of them along the Surf Coast, Bellarine and Geelong, who are building intentional brands, redefining success, and doing business differently.
She has become a sought-after photographer who is known for her authentic style, candid captures, and making her clients feel at ease in front of the camera.
While many see photoshoots as an intimidating experience, Leslie likes to flip the script and show how empowering and fun it can be.
“I’m planning the shoot with them every step of the way, from creating the mood board and prop list, to finding the perfect location and outfits.
“My process is very hands on and personalised because every business and their visual branding is so different.
Leslie’s attention to detail ensures that the final images align with the brand’s overall vision and captures the essence of the business.
Her love for her clients and desire to connect them with each other inspired her to start the Surf Coast Women in Business community.
The group has more than 800 members and is a space female founders to collaborate, ask for support and connect at in-person events.
Aside from photography and running the Women in Business group, Leslie is also a mentor for other creatives.
“As a small business owner myself, I know the immense dedication and sacrifice required to take the leap and head out on your own,” she said.
“I 100 per cent believe in women’s ability to bring their creative dreams and visions to life.
“But I also know that life gets busy, we languish and lose motivation, and our daily responsibilities can leave us feeling frazzled and uncreative.
“My mentoring sessions are designed to help women shake up the stagnant energy and move from stuck and unclear to inspired and motivated.”
Whether she is behind the camera, running events or mentoring, Leslie’s purpose always comes back to activating and amplifying women’s gifts and sharing their brilliance with the world.
