Melanie Swan manages the Coast Print to provide out-of-the-box printing solutions locally.

Melanie Swan has been fortunate enough to work and raise her family in the town she has called home for the past 20 years.

Arriving in Torquay, she landed an opportunity to work in print and advertising at Times News Group.

Initially, Melanie was part of the advertising department, working as an advertising account executive, working with local businesses to put together advertising campaigns and schedules.

As part of this, clients would often ask for help with creative artwork and design, and source their business printed items, so Times News Group took on the challenge to become digital printers, and Melanie was tasked taking the lead. “Talk about a sink or swim scenario,” she said.

“I had to learn all things print, and do it fast. I remember initial conversations with suppliers just trying to learn the correct terminology to explain myself, all the while doing my very best to look like I knew what I was doing.”

Fast forward 15 years and Melanie is still managing Coast Print and its amazing team.

“I love that everyday I am still learning, whether it’s from my team members with their vast experience, researching new innovations, machinery and trends within the industry,” she said.

“I pinch myself when I think of my novice beginnings to where I am now and my scope of knowledge across all areas; from pre-press and graphic departments to production, machinery maintenance and repairs – I’ve come a long way.

“I am really hands on, I love being part of the action and the challenges that a day can bring.

“When you’re on a deadline with so many moving parts there is always a breakdown or something that we need to try to find a work around.

That pressure can be exciting.”

Melanie thrives on providing clients with out-of-the-box solutions that Coast Print can produce locally.

“It has been wonderful to be a part of new business ventures, and watching these brands become successful business that are still going strong and still be their preferred printer,” she said.\

“I feel so chuffed to collaborate with so many local business and people, I still get excited and brim with pride when I see our printed products out in the market, my friends and family are probably sick of me always saying ‘ I printed that’.”

Melanie and the team have cultivated great working relationships with other local business in similar fields, with Melanie saying she loves that they recommend each other, depending on specialities, and use each other’s services to ensure the local community can shop locally.

Coast Print is a great local print solution, whether it be document printing or business marketing collateral and stationery.

The business is conscious of its impact on the environment and prides itself on only purchasing papers that are FSC with a range of 100% Recycled.

“Our suppliers also have an exceptional environmental ethos, which we love,” Melanie said. “If you need print, we would love to hear from you.”
