Author and illustrator Bianca B is based in Geelong and, having been diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum, said she felt this book finally helped her embrace her differences.

Neddy’s Box of Noodles, written and illustrated by 15-year-old Geelong local Bianca B, is a tale of humour, fun and imagination.

The book tells the story of four-year-old Neddy who carries his box of noodles with him wherever he goes, sharing its wonder with the world.

Author and illustrator Bianca B is based in Geelong and, having been diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum, said she felt this book finally helped her embrace her differences.

Bianca said she has always loved art and creativity but had never really expected to be an author or illustrator, instead she fell into writing one day when she was sitting on the couch watching her young cousin, Ned, use his imagination and she decided to write and illustrate the book for him.

“He just has a really weird imagination, so I decided to use my weird imagination to make him a book,” Bianca said.

“Growing up everyone would look at me weirdly because I’m autistic and I have a weird imagination. But with this book I can use my imagination and there will be kids out there that will like that, and want to read it.”

“And appreciate the weirdness,” Nicole, Bianca’s mum, added.

Nicole said she was proud of her daughter for finding her passion and creating such a fun, creative book.

“I’m really excited for the launch, and really proud of Bianca.

“It’s so silly and fun.

“She’s always felt like she was a little bit different. She’s got an older sister and older foster sister so she’s always wanted to be like them.

“They’re getting jobs and their L Plates, and she wanted something special that is just for her, and she’s always loved art.”
“I’m just rapt that she’s found something that she loves and so young as well.”

Bianca said the book is inspired by the likes of Dr Suess, embracing the nonsensical and fun while exploring rhythm and rhyme.

Bianca is now working on a memoir about her grandfather, writing a young adult novel and planning two children’s picture books.

Looking forward, Bianca said she hoped to write more books for her cousins and eventually begin writing and directing movies.
