1000 reasons to donate

February 5, 2016 BY

KOBO Café Torquay is raising funds for people at Wye River affected by the bushfire and is looking to nearly double to amount raised in the coming weeks.

So far they’ve raised $600 toward the bushfire relief fund, and won’t stop until they’ve reached in excess of $1,000.

Restaurant manager Bianca McCormack described witnessing the devastation of the fires up close recently.

“We heard of the bushfires initially, but then I drove through Wye River and saw what it was like, there was just nothing, just all burnt out.

“It’s such a small community, I thought surely we can do something to give back, even if it’s just a few trees.

“We started a little collection to see where it went and people have been really generous.”

Kobo will collect beyond Easter, pooling their donation with a fundraiser through the shire.

“It happened at the worst possible time; during their peak trading period, it would be the same here.”

The best way to donate is in store at Kobo Café at 1 Cliff Street, Torquay.
