ARTISTS RE-EMERGE AT Altmann Studio
An exhibition featuring three local Torquay artists will open at the Altmann Studio in Melbourne on November 24.
The exhibit running until December 2 showcases works from established artists Anna Placidi (Ballarat), Faye
Aldred and Veronica O’Hehir as well emerging artist Edward Matthew Gude (all from Torquay).
After graduating with a degree in fine art and a diploma in education, Veronica established herself as a practicing and exhibiting artist in Melbourne during the ‘90s-2000s.
Veronica co-founded and directed RIPE gallery then later founded and directed KRAM gallery, she was also part of the Maribyrnong River Edge Arts Movement (MREAM); the studio where she met and worked alongside Faye.
Veronica said after moving to Torquay to raise her two children she took a short hiatus where she focused on teaching art, studio practice, private commissions and mural collaborations. “Currently I’m immersed in my art full time in my studios situated in Torquay and Dreeite (our rural property), painting and now re-emerging into the exhibiting world.”
Faye said she recently moved to Torquay to continue her ongoing “creative practice” and was looking forward to collaborating alongside Veronica once more.
“Veronica and I shared studios in Footscray in the late ‘90s, and she kindly invited me to be part of the upcoming exhibition with Edward Gude and Anna Placidi, to be held at the Altmann Gallery later this month in Melbourne,” she said.
Edward was selected as an emerging artist from Torquay to watch, whilst Anna Placidi found prominence in the emerging arts and theatre culture in Fitzroy, having also exhibited alongside Veronica at RIPE; a mother of two, her works are known and sold around Australia.
The official opening is on November 24 from 5pm-8pm at 5/15 Advantage Road Highett, for more information email [email protected] or phone 0430 101 478.
