Awards open at Geelong youth

YOUNG PEOPLE making a difference within the community will be recognised once more as nominations open for this year’s Geelong Youth Awards.

Community members are encouraged to nominate a young person aged 12-25 who is making a difference and reward the courage, passion and hard work shown through their actions.

All nominees will receive a certificate and the successful nominee in each category will receive a $500 contribution to support their ongoing interests, education and/or community work, along with a personalised trophy.

City of Greater Geelong mayor Bruce Harwood said the awards were an excellent way to encourage youth to continue bettering our community.

“The Geelong Youth Awards are a fantastic way to show our support and appreciation for the many ways in which young people make our community even better,” Cr Harwood said.

“These young people will also inspire others to work hard to make a difference and achieve their dreams in the future.”

The winners will be announced at a gala event at The Pier on 1 June 2018 with winners recognised in the Arts and Music, Community Citizenship, Leadership/Role Model, Social Justice (advocacy), Sport, and Young Carer Award categories.
