The charity hosts thousands of children each year at overnight and day programs, with this week’s donations enabling it to accept hundreds more

St Leonards Fitness, Health and Wellbeing Centre offers several therapies that have spiritual, mental and physical benefits.

The St Leonards Fitness, Health and Wellbeing Centre’s journey began years ago when Portside Pilates owner George Cormack (who was overworked, overwrought and tired of the stresses of everyday life taking a toll on his body and mind), came up with the concept of the mental health gym of the future.

From there, Portside Pilates flourished into a wellness centre with a diverse client base that ranges from manual workers to expectant women to corporate executives. Even a few famous faces come through the door.

It’s no surprise that this centre attracts people from all walks of life.

Therapies include acupuncture, massage, pilates, gym and Chinese herbs, and each have wide-reaching benefits that cover everything from mental clarity to improving cardiovascular function and combatting chronic back pain.

Dr. Jennifer Elshaug’s Chinese medicine treatments may include acupuncture, cupping, herbal medicines, moxibustion, Tui Na (Chinese massage), diet and lifestyle advice and can assist in restoring balance or function to area of disease – where there is imbalance or low function.

Your body pursues “balance” as balance is pain-free. Therefore, feeling pain indicates an area where your body is having difficulty, an area of imbalanced Qi.

Jennifer has a sincere interest in musculoskeletal injuries/conditions, chronic pain, gynaecological conditions (menstrual irregularities, fertility, menopause) digestive/gut health, sleep issues, mental and emotional health.

Anita Hayden’s massage therapies include the blending of her own massage oils and scents which may help calm thoughts and reduce stress.

A calming tea, and Indian head massage, and you become a new person.

The Spin Cycle room offers an open-air environment to improve your cardiovascular fitness and de-stress. Combining spin with reformer Pilates is a great opportunity to benefit your whole-body workout.

The Gym offers everything needed for a great workout, and personal training is available by appointment.

The Pilates studio is well equipped with 10 reformer beds and ten Vibro-Plate machines.

The centre offers a cardiovascular workout while drawing deeply on mental focus and teaching the sacred principal of relaxation within movement.

The result is in a stronger, leaner body, improved posture and true ease of both movement and mind.

A key principal of fitness Pilates is forming a deep connection between the body and mind. The mindful thinking you indulge in during class will inspire you throughout your day to day life.

Reformer Fundamentals to Pilates Fit, Belly Butts & Thighs and Arms Abs & Assets are the core classes suitable to all types of bodies and levels of fitness. Clients range in age from 13 to 93.
