Bexercise is back
A Torquay personal trainer has started sharing live videos of high intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts on Facebook to encourage people to get moving during the coronavirus pandemic.
Rebecca Thompson ran Bexercise for five years before transitioning into Airbnb property management about 12 months ago through Ocean Edge Holiday Rentals.
She said she’s decided to use her 20 years of experience in fitness as a contribution to the community throughout the self-isolation period.
“I sort of put my classes on the back-burner when I bought the business but I was talking to my friends on Zoom the other night about how devastating this all is and I thought this could be my gift, my contribution, to make people feel really good.”
Rebecca said the workouts – which each run for 30 minutes – can be done anywhere.
“So many of the exercises I’ve always done are in small spaces that you can do anywhere.
“I know for me exercise is so powerful in making me feel amazing and in control, whereas right now nobody feels in control – we have no control over any of this and I know that when I used to run exercise classes, it would change people.
“They’d come in the morning say ‘I don’t feel like doing this’ then they’d leave and go ‘I feel amazing; I feel like I can do anything’.”
Rebecca uploaded her first live video last Thursday and received positive feedback from many of her former clients.
She said her plan was to go live with her HIIT workouts at 8.30am every Tuesday and Thursday.
The videos will be saved for people to refer back to at any time.
“It’s nice to be part of the community by doing Bexercise again,” she said.
“I’m feeling just the same as everyone right now, we’ve lost thousands of dollars, all of our Easter bookings have been cancelled – it’s been pretty devastating for us.
“But rather than sitting around and feeling sad about it, all we can do is think about the situation we’re in right now and try to make it as manageable as possible.”
Rebecca said the best way to manage mental health was through physical health.
“If you can’t control anything else in your day, you can always control being able to get up and do some sort of exercise for 30 minutes.
“Mental health is such a huge priority right now, and the best way to assist and control in that is through physical health and physical activity, every single day.”
