Boardsox shift to new home in Torquay

BOARDSOX co-founders Sarah Quinney and Dan O’Connell have moved their sustainable surf hardware brand out of their spare room at Ocean Grove and into Torquay to continue to inspire positive innovation in the surfing community.

The brother-sister duo earlier this month packed up all their surfboard socks, bags and accessories and shifted to a warehouse/shop front space in Sawmills Way in Torquay’s industrial estate.

 

 

The new location, which they’ll share with fellow local business friends Van Market, puts Boardsox right in the heart of Torquay’s thriving surf culture hub, exactly where co-founder Sarah Quinney said it should be.

“I needed to get the business out of my house and the universe just aligned for us with this opportunity.

“We had so many people coming past the Ocean Grove place to get products, so this just felt like the right evolution for the brand as we continue to grow.

“Torquay is still the home of surfing in this region and to be part of it is pretty awesome.

“The Van Market shares a lot of the same customers, so it works really well for us to both be in the one major warehouse.

“We can’t wait to see how it all goes and to launch it properly.”

 

 

Boardsox specialise in surfboard covers and accessories which are environmentally sourced and built for functionality, style and sustainability.

Since 2017, the brand has worked to inspire surfers to become advocates for a better world through collaborations with environmental organisations, community outreach programs and ongoing initiatives to raise awareness about ocean conversation.

 

 

Mrs Quinney said the new space will not only be a spot for surfers to come and grab their favourite products, but a place to connect, hang out, have a coffee and watch surf movies.

“I want to open it up as a lounge room sort of set up.

“We’ve got plenty of coffee shops in Torquay but nowhere to sort of just sit and hang.

“We’ll have the couches, the surf nights and it’s a place for people within our surf community to hang out.

“The best ideas are made sometimes in the worse economic climate, so hopefully our new space can pay off for not only Boardsox but for the whole community.”

Boardsox will be hosting a launch party to give locals a chance to see their new home tomorrow evening (July 15) from 5pm onwards.
