BOMBORAS’ MELBOURNE CUP DAY celebration returns
Punters and race lovers are rejoicing with the return of Bomboras’ Melbourne Cup celebrations on November 6.
After last year’s popular event co-owner Tom McGrath said they were hoping to attract an even larger crowd to enjoy festivities, which includes fashion on the field.
“Last year Josh (fellow owner) and I were really impressed and genuinely surprised with the effort everyone went to with their fashion. We’re encouraging everyone to dress up again in their best race day attire for this year’s event,” he said.
“It’s going to be a similar format to last year but bigger and better. It’s $50 per head and that includes gourmet finger food available all day, three big screens throughout the restaurant broadcasting the cup and live entertainment.
“We’re going to do our Melbourne Cup horse silent auction where people bid on each horse. Instead of having a sweep, first, second and third share the money from the auction.”
Tom said first prize for fashions on the field this year was tickets to A Day on the Green with Florence and the Machine, kindly donated by Mt Duneed Estate.
“The Day on the Green is sold out so it’s a great prize. We will have live music during the day and entertainment later that evening, which will be confirmed,” he said.
“We had over 100 people last year and have catered for a larger crowd this time around. There has already been a lot of interest because people love having an official celebration for the cup on the coast.
“We started it last year to give people somewhere to come, get dressed up and enjoy the race, the reception we got back was fantastic. Tickets will sell out quickly so we’re recommending people get in quick.”
