FOR 10 years, Wave Rider South Coast Shuttles has been ensuring the community gets home from events and nights out safely.

Owner Shaun Phillips has serviced people of the region and formed connections over the past decade as he has watched his business grow.

“A lot of other bus companies have come in; it’s good, competition is always good,” he said.

“We’ve always been loyal to our locals. We were here before Uber was.

“It’s been a tricky ride, a tough ride, but we’ve stayed solid and stayed true, and people like the atmosphere in our buses.”

As the business has grown, the fleet has also expanded to provide options suited to groups of all sizes with vehicles available in a 13- and 20-seater and a newly-purchased 57-seater bus.

The new bus is equipped with seatbelts and air-conditioning, with Mr Phillips saying it is perfect for big group bookings.

He also hopes to be able to work with schools.

As December returns, so does the Torquay shuttle service.

Operating for the summer season until February, it drops off and picks up passengers across the town.

At $10 per person, per trip, the shuttle picks up and drops off at local venues, working in a loop.

Mr Phillips said his business provided a range of benefits to those in the region, from safety and convenience through to friendly drivers and cheap service.

“We get everyone home safely and reliably,” he said. “We’re a phone call [away], we’re not an app, people can ring us; that’s the bonus of us, too.”

Wave Rider South Coast Shuttles also offers transport for events, tours, an airport shuttle, weddings and more, allowing customers to enjoy their outings as much as possible without being concerned about how to get home.

Mr Phillips thanked the community for supporting his business for 10 years and said he looked forward to the future.

“We’re hoping to keep the shuttle going for another 10 years, keep it a local tradition,” he said.

“It’s a family-run business but it’s good to share it with other people.”
