Celebrating independent designers
THE Design Exchange is returning to Torquay next weekend, celebrating Victoria’s independent designers across two days.
On July 27 and 28, Torquay’s Hoop Gallery will host the event, celebrating creativeness and ethical trading.
There’s something on offer for everyone with free entertainment for the kids and local wineries and distilleries also on scene for the adults.
The Design Exchange owner Lyndelle Flintoft said for many of the creators, it’s their full-time job.
“It’s all based around providing a platform for creators and makers who are at that are at the top of their game.
“There’s lots of different things, but it’s about bringing creators together and bringing the community together for a family event.”
The Saturday night will also feature a DJ, fire pits and mulled gin allowing people to spend the evening browsing The Design Exchange.
Ms Flintoft is encouraging the community to head down to The Hoop Gallery and support the local event.
“I know a lot of small businesses are struggling at the moment, so it’s really good to come out and support the designers,” she said.
“People thinking about where they’re buying their clothes from and where they’re buying their art from is probably a conscious decision we all need to look at.
“It’s a nice place to come with the family and just hang out and do a bit of shopping, sit around and enjoy the atmosphere.”
The Design Exchange has been running for 16 years now and first came to Torquay last year.
“We had it at the big top at Nightjar and it was really well received, so that’s why we’ve been looking for a space to bring it back to Torquay,” Ms Flintoft said.
Entry to the event is $3 with children under the age of 13 free.
The Design Exchange will be open on July 27 from 3pm until 7pm and on July 28 from 10am until 3pm.
