CHAFFEY BROS. TRIPEL PUNKT EDEN VALLEY RIESLING 2015 ($24)
They source the Riesling from three old vine sites: Springton, Flaxman Valley and Angaston Hills, where it is all hand-picked, whole- bunch pressed then allowed to sit for 18 hours on skins. The quest is for a Riesling that shows all that is great about the variety – precision, texture and balance – and I think this baby from a stunning vintage hits the nail on the head.
Tantalisingly aromatic and fresh with lifted fragrance and perfume straight off the bat, followed by that delicious mouthwatering acidity and fine honed fruit line with lovely mouthfeel/texture swirling around on the palate with balancing spiciness and crispness plus mineral and chalk elements on the finish.
At only 11.5 per cent alcohol, this is a cracking wine, really interesting!
