Community choir brings Harmonies
The Sing Australia choir in Geelong will be performing their Harmonies on the Hill concert on November 26 at 2pm at the St. Joseph’s College Performing Arts Centre.
Sing Australia is an Australia-wide organisation encouraging people who enjoy singing to give it a go no matter their experience.
Geelong’s Sing Australia choir leader Mary Simms is passionate about bringing together anyone who loves to sing.
“It is not an auditioned choir – it is very much a community choir, with 600 choirs throughout Australia.
“We have many members who have been with us for in excess of 10 years and the benefits of singing with such a wonderful group of people are amazing.”
The Harmonies on the Hill concert will feature a variety of Australian songs, ballads, a few Christmas songs and many more.
“One of the best things about the choirs across the country is that we all have the same repertoire of songs and uniform,” Mary said.
“Any member can travel the country and join in at any of the destinations; it’s definitely very community based.”
The Geelong group meet every Wednesday at 7.30pm at the Belmont Senior Citizens Hall, located at 52 Thomson Street, Belmont.
The Harmonies on the Hill concert will run for just over an hour, with afternoon tea provided after the performance.
Tickets are $10, including after performance refreshments and can be purchased at the door.
St. Joseph’s College Performing Arts Centre is located at 135 Aphrasia Street, Newtown. For more information, phone Mary on 0419 278 456.
