Crowds celebrate two worlds of music

A vision that exceeded reality is how Two Worlds Festival organiser Cam Begg described the October 20 event that took place at the Fyansford Paper Mills.

Aussie rock legends Tim Rogers and Adalita joined Yirrmal and the Miliyawutj and a slew of other high-class acts who took to the stages across the afternoon and evening.

The inspiration for the festival comes from the Marrma’ Rom-Two Worlds Foundation, which translates to “two worlds, two cultures or two belief systems” in Yolngyu Matha, the language of the people in Arnhem Land.

Mr Begg said despite the rain, a thousand-strong crowd turned out to celebrate the best of western and Indigenous culture, creating a “fantastic” atmosphere.

“Every singer has been glowing in their response, they were treated really well, we have great volunteers who look after them. The crowd was receptive to the artists.

“The sound was fantastic by our technicians, everything led to them (the artists) being in a really great place and they performed really well.

“Everyone was really happy, and it was extremely gratifying. It’s exactly as we would have hoped and envisioned, and we are looking forward to building the momentum on it.”
