Dowel Jones celebrates 10 years

JOIN design studio Dowel Jones as they celebrate 10 years with an exhibition at the National Wool Museum.

The gallery space is filled with their collaborative projects, where visitors will learn about the design process.

Geelong is the hometown of Dowel Jones. Founded by Adam Lynch and Dale Hardiman, it is one of Australia’s leading design studios and celebrated globally.

The exhibition celebrates the pairs colourful, dynamic and playful approach they take in making their furniture, with the gallery space filled with collaborative projects, furniture, lighting, ceramics and textiles.

Within the exhibition is a “Self Portrait Rug”, a major collaboration with MoPa and GH commercial. Children were asked to draw their portrait, which was then digitally printed onto a 10 by two metre rug.

A chair was also upholstered in Melbourne with names custom-printed onto the fabric. “Big Friendly” was designed by Australian furniture designer and artist CJ Anderson for Down Jones.

Hardiman said he wanted to include as many people as possible from across the area in the exhibition.

“There are 646 children on the rug, 1,400 names on a chair, and then the collaborations – so over 2,000 participants making this work and we will be crediting them all.”

City of Greater Geelong deputy mayor Anthony Aitken said the Dowel Jones story showed how creatives and designers can thrive and build community in the industry.

“Geelong has a proud history of design and stories like Adam and Dale’s are a big part of why the City of Greater Geelong first applied to become UNESCO Creative Cities Network City of Design.

“The is exactly the sort of creativity and collaboration we strive to inspire here in Great Geelong.”

The exhibition is open from now until November 24.
