Ella Sweeney continues local family connection

January 17, 2019 BY

Ella with a friend at Falls Festival.

Ella Sweeney has lived in Torquay her entire life.

Her Grandfather Joe Sweeney cleared the first path to Bells in the early 60s and her family are some of the kindest, most honest and giving people I have met. It made sense when she invited young Finnigan August to help her open up for Didiri at the Torquay Hotel. A new local tradition.

Sharing the stage with the next generation as the heavyweights roll into town.

CH: Favourite surf break on the coast?

ES: Winki. I love Winkipop. Just some special sessions with the family and when I was on a shortboard it was fun, but now that I’m a retiree and on a longboard I love Torquay point, it’s so much fun. Possos, Bells!

CH: What was the music scene like growing up?

ES: The only band I remember is Bec Goring. I was in prep, she was in year 6, she had a worn down blue Strat and they used to play covers. I thought she was so cool.

CH: You’re studying music production, when are you going to run a festival?

ES: Actually, it was really cool, we did a festival called City Loop as part of my studies. Cut Copy played, CC:DISCO!, Kllo. It was really cool.

CH: Favourite local musicians?

ES: I’ve always looked up to the Rudds.

They are good family friends. Iggy and Max used to be in a band when I was growing up. I always thought they were awesome. Jasper Jolley is amazing too; he’s such a good guy, loved The Tiny Giants when I was at school.
