Enjoy a Mid-Winter FILM FEAST in Queenscliff
The Low Light Festival is in full swing, and as part of the event Bellarine Lighthouse Films will present a three-day Mid Winter Film Feast from June 28-30 at Queenscliff Town Hall.
This film feast will feature handpicked fine art films sourced from around the world.
First up is “A boy called Sailboat” (Australia/Mexico/USA) on Friday June 28 at 7pm.
A Hispanic family finds hope in their extraordinary son named Sailboat when a personal gesture awakens a global desire.
Armed with a “little guitar”, Sailboat leads an offbeat cast into the miraculous story of the greatest secret never told.
Enjoy complementary wine and cheese on arrival followed by a Q&A with producer Andrew Curry.
Next up is “Oh Lucy” (Japan) on Saturday June 29 at 1pm, where a lonely woman living in Tokyo decides to take an English class where she discovers her alter ego, Lucy.
“WAJIB – The wedding invitation” (Palestine) is on Saturday June 29 at 3.30pm.
After several years living abroad, architect Shadi reluctantly returns to his hometown of Nazareth to fulfil a traditional Palestinian custom: handdelivering hundreds of invitations to his sister’s wedding.
“Under the tree” (Iceland) on Saturday June 29 June at 7.30pm follows a man who is accused of adultery and forced to move in with his parents and is gradually sucked into a dispute between them and their neighbours over an old and beautiful tree.
What starts as a typical spat between suburban neighbours unexpectedly and violently reaches boiling point, soon spiralling out of control.
And lastly, Capharnaum (Lebanon) is on Sunday June 30 at 11am.
Receiving a 15-minute standing ovation as well as the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Nadine Labaki’s fable centres on a child attempting to divorce his parent for giving him life.
Zain, born in a family overwhelmed by too many children, slum neighbourhoods, a sister sold into marriage, deprivation and roaming the streets as the sole caretaker of an abandoned toddler – his grievances against the world and those who
brought him into it reverberate with righteous fury.
