Entertainment unleashed at the Potato Shed

Live performances are back in a big way, with more than 17 shows (including a world premiere, and First Nations exhibition) scheduled at the Potato Shed from April to June.

April kicks off with a celebration of Geelong’s music heritage with a number of shows as part of Sounds Geelong and the Bellarine Music Festival from April 7 to May 8.

Friday, April 8, from 8pm, Debra Byrne – an intimate and up-close performance with guests Simon Phillips, Chris Paraha and Elvis Aljus – will perform songs from her vast repertoire.

On Sunday, April 10, at 6pm on the outdoor stage, Her Story, Through Song features original artists and storytellers of varying ages and stages of their careers, representing different decades.

 

Saturday, April 23, INXSIVE – The INXS Tribute Band will transport you back to the 80s, and on the outdoor stage on Sunday, April 24, Tenzin Choegyal will take you on a musical journey transcending cultural boundaries and revealing ancient wisdoms.

Sun Rising – the Songs that Made Memphis returns Saturday, April 30. And in keeping with the theme, Morning Showtime at 10.30am Tuesday, May 3, is a riotous romp through the history of rock n’ roll featuring All Shook Up and ringmaster extraordinaire, Colin Mockett.

The world premiere of Late, Late at Night at 8pm on Saturday, May 7, rounds out the Surround Sounds month of music. A stage adaptation of Rick Springfield’s New York Times best-selling memoir, Late, Late at Night will give you a ringside seat to the spectacular highs and devastating lows of a life dedicated to rock and roll.

April Morning Showtime at 10.30am on Tuesday, April 5, features Issi Dye – A life Full of Tributes, with Issi paying homage to all who have influenced his remarkable career.

Future stars will take to the stage when the Jongleurs present Into the Woods Jnr on Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2, and the long-awaited COVID delayed school holiday show Little Red Riding Hood from Tuesday April 19 to Friday April 22 will finally answer the question, who is lurking in the bushes outside grandma’s?

Music, drama, comedy and exhibitions continue throughout May and June with two COVID-postponed shows taking to the Potato Shed stage including MTC’s Slap.Bang.Kiss on Wednesday, May 4, and REBEL, the live circus rock tribute to the original rebel David Bowie on Saturday, June 25.

In Jude Perl – Participation Award the multi-award-winning Melbourne-based comedian asks the question, ‘why does school suck so much?’. One show only at 8pm Friday, May 13.

Circling Time – Songs and Stories by Kutcha Edwards on Thursday, May 19, is an exploration of Kutcha’s life through the themes of country, birth, youth, politics, love, culture, healing and hope. Not to be missed.

The exhibition Journey on Wadawurrung Country is a cultural exploration of local First Nations people and their stories through artistic practice. From Friday, May 19, incorporating Reconciliation Week.

The re-telling of Jekyll and Hyde at 8pm Friday, May 27, will give you permission to unleash your inner monster. On Saturday, June 4, Cabaret Club Soda is all about the surreal and Winter Solstice One Act Plays on winter solstice celebrates 15 years of bringing you the best in local theatre.
