Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the city in a family friendly festival.

The annual Ballarat Heritage Festival will return to the city’s streets for a 10-day event from May 17 until May 26.

Ballarat’s iconic architecture will be the backdrop as festival goers explore the region, blending the old with the new as more than 40 events taking place across different venues.

The festival will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn about the history of the city as they enjoy experiences suited for the whole family.

Running since May 2007, the festival has become a major tourist attraction with crowd favourites set to return to the event, along with some new additions.

Hertiage Harvest Weekend will take over Sovereign Hill from May 25 to 26 in a celebration of all things harvest with feature demonstrations and masterclasses, along with family entertainment and kids’ activities.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the city in a family friendly festival.

In its fourth year Craft Lab 24 will return to the festival at the Ballarat Mining Exchange where 17 practitioners including weavers, metalworkers, jewellers and more share their knowledge with visitors.

Craft Lab 24 curator Amelia James said visitors at this year’s event have a chance to see a wide range of practices.

“Through events like Craft Lab, the festival highlights how traditional craftmanship can evolve and thrive in modern times.

“Featuring 18 demonstrations and over 30 display exhibitors, Craft Lab is a celebration of the rich history of Ballarat, told through a lens that recognises the relevance of heritage in today’s world.”

For one night only festival goers can attend The Great Takeaway, returning for its second year, with a tailored three-course dinner where art, craft and gastronomy collide.

Guests will dine among materials, textiles, glassware and ceramics produced in the region and will be able to take home their handcrafted dinner setting.

Travellers can choose from a range of options as they climb onto The Vintage Train with tours between Golden Plains and Baccus Marsh or hop on the convenient shuttle between Ballarat and Melbourne.
