Folk festival drops first lineup

The much-loved music extravaganza will return over the Labour Day long weekend, bringing together a global gathering of folk luminaries.
Leading the first lineup announcement are Swedish vocal quartet Åkervinda, Ireland genre-bending quintet Beoga, Australian powerhouse vocalist Emma Donovan, revered singer-songwriter Iron & Wine, Academy Award winning songwriters The Swell Season and talented brit Blair Dunlop.

More than 100 artists will perform across four major stages in the Port Fairy Folk Festival arena, as well as within small venues and halls across the township.
Port Fairy Folk Festival program director Justin Rudge said the first lineup reflected the spirit of the area – global, diverse and deeply rooted in the joy of live music.

“We can’t wait to welcome these incredible artists and music lovers from near and far to Port Fairy.
“They’ll be joined by hundreds more come March in a gathering of artists spanning genres from traditional to contemporary – and enticing audiences of all ages to enjoy the Folkie and the many activities we have planned for music lovers.”

Other artists locked in to perform at Port Fairy include Elephant Sessions (SCO), Felicity Urquhart and Josh Cunningham (AUS), Grainne Hunt (IRE), Mary Coughlan (IRE), Mia Kelly (CAN), Nico Paulo (PRT,CAN), Northern Resonance (SWE), Pierce Brothers (AUS), Steve Poltz (CAN), Svavar Knutur (ICE) and Windborne (USA).
