Freshest is best at The Cave

August 4, 2023 BY

Jan Juc resident and The Cave Wood Fired Pizza owner Michael Reid says the business offers nothing but the freshest quality ingredients on its menu.

WITH its 10-year anniversary since opening in Jan Juc drawing close, The Cave Wood Fired Pizza continues to provide the freshest pizza ingredients on the Surf Coast.

Each Wednesday morning, fresh vegetables and meats are delivered to the business on Princes Terrace, where staff members diligently prepare the produce for the current week’s service.

Business owner and Jan Juc resident Michael Reid said Jan Juc locals took great pride in knowing they had access to one of the town’s hidden gems four days of the week.

“We always cater to every customer’s needs, personal touch and personal service is one of the key tenets that we aim to provide,” Mr Reid said.

“Our menu has evolved from our original base recipe since we first opened, it’s something we’re very proud of and it’s something that has to be experienced to be believed.”

Tucked away from Jan Juc’s main hospitality strip on 18/20 Princes Terrace, the business runs from Thursday to Sunday from 5pm to late.

Mr Reid and his team of eight committed staff offer 20 different pizzas and a handful of starters, paired with a full selection of wines, canned spirits, and beers.

He confirmed the business will be offering a new cocktail menu in the coming weeks heading into the summer months – a combination of signature and custom concoctions.

Customers also have the option of dining in at the restaurant’s intimate space or they can enjoy their favourite topping from the comfort of their own home with takeaway.

Alternatively, if there is a large event taking place in Torquay or Jan Juc, The Cave can add top-class pizza options to the occasion.

Mr Reid – more commonly known as Mick – has called Jan Juc home for more than four decades, where he grew his passion of becoming a restaurant owner out from his skills as a bricklayer by trade.

Building most of his restaurant with his bare hands, from the wood fired oven, to the tables the food is eaten off, Mr Reid said he was proud to help the business become a staple of Jan Juc’s hospitality scene.

“All we ask of people who might not have heard of the business is to come in and try one of our pizzas.

“Coming in and getting the food straight out of the oven, you can see why we are so proud of our bases and our final product too.”

The Cave Wood Fired Pizza first opened its doors on Australia Day in 2014, and its 10-year milestone is scheduled to take place on January 26 next year.
