FUNDRAISER TO HELP OUR FIJIAN FRIENDS

March 10, 2016 BY

The Surf Coast community will rally around a local family whose relatives have been affected by Fiji’s Cyclone Winston at a fundraising event next weekend. Torquay residents Dani and Vili Vili Tabuakoto’s Fijian family lost almost everything when Cyclone Winston made landfall in their village of Lovoni on the island of Ovalau on February 20.
More than 40 people died in the storm and the village of Lovoni was almost completely wiped out.
BirdRock owner Liv Tyler said the Torquay residents were close family friends and they wanted to do anything they could to help.
“As the amazing communities of Fiji do, we are also banding together to do a silent auction fundraiser at BirdRock on March 19 from 3pm,” she said.
“Together with so many generous locals we will be auctioning off some amazing items.
“Also on the day, we will be letting everyone experience some of the excellent culture that Fiji has to offer, from fire twirling, traditional dancing and even the chance the sit and try some Kava.
“All proceeds will go directly to the Lovoni Village to help them rebuild the life that they cherish so dearly.”
Some of the contributing businesses so far include: Brown Magpie, Squires Loft, Roku Den, Amelia Anderson Photography, Freshwater Creek Cottages, Rip Curl, Quiksilver, Patagonia, Cotton On, White Kat Wines, Kate Jackson, Torquay Surf Academy, CS Air Conditioning, and Malibu Automotive.
If you are interested in donating an item or experience to be auctioned off please contact BirdRock on 5261 5590.
