Geelong After Dark acts to be edgier than ever

March 31, 2016 BY

GEELONG After Dark’s third round of program highlights has been released, promising an exciting mix of unique and surprising performances, installations and arts experiences this May.
The annual multi-award winning event will transform Central Geelong’s streets, laneways and venues, in a night of discovery on May 6 between 6pm and 10pm.
City of Greater Geelong Arts and Culture councillor Andy Richards said this latest announcement of program highlights included plans for City Hall to be transformed (via projection) into a living musical instrument, a popup performance from an internationally celebrated operatic soprano, a whacky murder mystery radio serial and a roaming duo of branded bodies called “Brand Me Baby”.
“At Geelong After Dark this year, see City Hall in a new light, with some fantastic new projection art from Matt Bonner and some of the region’s talented projection artists,” Cr Richards said.
“Internationally celebrated operatic soprano Wendy Grose will harness the power of air (this year’s theme), in an inspiring pop-up performance, planned for a currently undisclosed location.
“Audiences will love On-Air, a whacky murder mystery radio serial preformed by five talented Geelong writers and artists in the style of 1940s pre-TV entertainment.
“A roaming duo of branded bodies called Brand Me Baby will also hit the streets – exploring the commodification of digital intimacy and enticing viewers to ‘brand’ their bodies with badges of pixelated logos.”
Cr Richards said Geelong After Dark, now in its third year, saw thousands of people converge in Central Geelong after dusk to discover some of the region’s most edgy arts experiences, placed in some of the most unusual places.
“In 2016, we will have over 50 artists and arts groups (totalling more than 200 people) participating in a program of intriguing arts experiences, which will delight, inspire and be enjoyed by all,” Cr Richards said.
