GeeLong’s Live Music and Little Malop’s augmented reality

Geelong’s first ever Live Music Action Plan (LiveMAP) was launched on Friday alongside a mural of Geelong rock legend Chrissy Amphlett.

The LiveMAP was developed by the City of Greater Geelong working with Geelong’s live music sector to help grow a more active, creative and sustainable live music culture in Central and Greater Geelong.

City of Greater Geelong mayor Bruce Harwood said the LiveMAP is an important step in creating more places for people to see live music and backing sustainable music enterprises in Geelong.

“Live music is fundamental to a vibrant, creative city and contributes to our economy and the community. As Victoria’s largest regional city, we’re well placed to be a centre of entertainment, culture and creativity.”

Fittingly, the LiveMAP was launched along with the Chrissy Amphlett tribute mural, created by airbrush artist Ian Lowe, in McLarty Place, off Little Malop Street.

The mural acts as a platform for a digital “augmented reality” experience engineered by local creative software studio Codeacious in partnership with Geelong based 3D artists, Pillowfort Creative.

People will need to download the Geelong Arts and Culture Trails app, point their iPhone or iPad at one of the posters on the mural to reveal a hidden window.

They can then explore a computer-generated room from the 1980s and listen to one of The Divinyls’ classic hits.

The official LiveMAP launch took place at The Worker’s Club, located nearby, and featured performances from Adalita (Magic Dirt), Yirrmal, the Sweethearts and Izzy Lossi.
