Good Gordon wins two gongs
THE Gordon has been honoured twice in this year’s Victorian Training Awards, picking up gongs for being Large Training Provider of the Year and producing the Vocational Student of the Year.
Announced earlier this month, the Victorian Training Awards recognise best practice in the vocational and education training (VET) sector and highlight leading examples of outstanding student-centric competency-based learning and organisational excellence across the state.
The Gordon was commended for offering a broad range of training products and services while consistently demonstrating excellence in all aspects of the provision and delivery of vocational education and training.
“This amazing result has been achieved by our staff and teachers’ dedication and steadfast commitment to producing industry-ready graduates,” The Gordon chief executive officer Lisa Line said.
“In doing so, our staff and teachers work tirelessly in delivering quality training for our students, industry partners and employers, and provide positive, engaging experiences for all who attend our long-standing, community-focussed institution.
Louise Nicholas was recognised for her outstanding achievements in the Diploma of Conservation and Land Management, which she completed in 2016.
After being made redundant and reconsidering her future, Ms Nicholas decided to enrol at The Gordon, and through her course, was able to progress her ambitions and gain relevant, practical skills. She is now a full-time leading hand of a natural resource management crew at Melbourne Water.
“Not only is this award affirmation of Louise’s hard work, passion and achievements, it also illustrates that behind each student is the support and expertise that both enables, and encourages, students to excel,” Ms Line said.
“These awards acknowledge our significant contribution to a dynamic, responsive and future-facing workforce in Greater Geelong and the broader region, and are a tribute to our priority; give students real skills, real experience, and real outcomes.”
As an award winner, The Gordon will now represent Victoria at the Australian Training Awards in Canberra on November 23.
