Herbalife ride pulls in $100,000 for charity

The team of Herbalife cyclists that left Torquay earlier this year have announced their ride has raised more than $100,000.

The 29 riders and 24 support crew taking part in the 2016 Herbalife Family Foundation Bike Ride started their 850-kilometre journey early on January 9 and arrived in Adelaide’s CBD six days later.

Torquay’s Kevin Beale and Gail Bernard have been part of the ride, which raises money for the Herbalife Family Foundation and supports The Infants Home in Sydney, Lighthouse Foundation in Melbourne and Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation in Perth, from the start.

“Three years ago Kevin came up with the idea to ride his bike from Torquay to Adelaide to raise funds for kids needing shelter and safety,” Ms Bernard said.

“I laughed, thinking it was a dream. Yes, it was a dream and yes, he did it – along with a raised $13,000.”

She said 2015’s ride saw 17 riders and 13 crew raise more than $48,000, while this year’s ride had raised at least $103,000. former Herbalife director Leslie Stanford, who pledged the amount if this year’s ride could raise $90,000.

Ms Bernard said she proud of Mr Beale, as well as “blessed to have shared this amazing journey with so many wonderful people”.

“Special thanks to all friends, family members, acquaintances and many I really don’t know for giving to this cause.

“You will never really know the difference your contribution will make – but you can be so many kids in need.”
