INSIGHTFUL PLAYS AT COURTHOUSE

November 14, 2018 BY

Two new original performances by The Geelong Edge ensemble, featuring culturally diverse youth, will offer a peek into their lives on November 22.

The Geelong Edge ensemble will deliver two original plays Share House and 2K for free at the Courthouse Youth Arts on November 22 from 7pm.

The culturally diverse youth will offer a peek into their lives via the double feature they’ve been working on for the past 12 months.

The group has worked closely with Western Edge Youth Arts’ artistic director Dr Dave Kelman who wrote 2K (alongside artist Dave Nguyen).

“The show is a crazy comedy about a young man who attempts to do the right thing in a world that is conspiring against him,” Dr Kelman said.

“It is based on the ideas, energy and raw talent of an amazing group of young men who want to show the community the positive things they have to offer Geelong.”

Share House is written by cast members Kiril Stamenkov and Sila Toprak and features four friends that live together with different cultures, stories, and personal troubles.

“Through the use of subtle humour and turbulent content, the story delivers real issues and reflects the many realities that affect culturally diverse youth in Geelong today,” Sila said.

Kiril said he drew his comedic inspiration from cultures worldwide, as well as movies, online videos and his own lived experiences to create a show that is “pure comedy based on life in Australia”.

“My goal when writing is to make the audience laugh, so I picture the scene, play it in my head, and keep tweaking it until I know the audience will definitely enjoy it,” he said.

Audiences will be immersed in misfortune, triumph, lies and love triangles that come hand in-hand with being a young adult in Geelong today.

The Geelong Edge ensemble recently performed a political adaptation of the Greek tragedy Antigone to a full house at Courthouse Youth Arts in October.

Share House and 2K is presented by Western Edge Youth Arts in partnership with Courthouse Youth Arts; Western Edge Youth Arts’ Geelong Edge ensemble is proudly supported by the Victorian Government, City of Greater Geelong, Geelong Community Foundation and Creative Victoria.
