It’s OK to not be OK

Train Fitness Professionals will be hosting a charity Metafit group training session on September 13 (R U OK? Day) to get people talking to one another about mental health.

On September 13, Train Fitness Professionals (TFP) Torquay will host a group Metafit session to provide people an opportunity to start talking to one another about mental health.

In support of September’s R U OK? initiative where Australians are encouraged to have a conversation with friends and family and ask, ‘are you ok?’, TFP will run a gold coin charity session at Torquay Pavilion from 10.30am until 11am.

According to the R U OK? site, 2,866 Australians died by suicide in 2016 (around eight people per day) so the earlier you start having conversations and destigmatize mental health, the better.

Owner of TFP Lisa-Marie Brayshaw said Metafit is a 30 minute HIIT style class (High Intensity Interval Training) that combines traditional bodyweight exercises with the latest HIIT training techniques to set the metabolism on fire.

“The session is called ‘Big Buff’ and is dedicated to a Royal Marine Commando friend of Justin (creator of Metafit) “Buff” who sadly lost his battle with PTSD and depression,” she said.

“The workout is as tough as he was and has been created to raise some awareness for anyone out there struggling with a similar condition.”

Ms Brayshaw said R U OK? promotes four conversation steps: Ask R U OK?, listen, encourage action and then check in.

“Look after yourselves, family and your friends, sometimes a text, email or even better a call can be priceless,” she said.
