Kites to colour the sky

October 31, 2017 BY

The foreshore at Fishermans Beach is set to soar with colour as the first Surf Coast Kite Festival takes place next month.

The festival, organised by a small group of parents from the Jan Juc Pre School, promises to be a day of fun for all ages.

Kite Festival organiser Sarah Bolus said the group was thankful for the support they’ve received.

“We’re grateful for the support of our sponsors the Surf Coast Shire, Torquay Community Enterprise and Coles, our marketing partners McCartney Real Estate, Surf Coast Times and DBM Signs, as well as many other local businesses and organisations who have come on board to make the festival possible,” she said.

The day has a line-up of giant kite displays by professional kite flyers, including World Champion flyer Jo Baker.

The Sand Whisperers will be weaving their sand art magic on the beach during the festival and there will be live entertainment, arts and crafts as well as fantastic food and drinks. Also on the program are free kids’ yoga classes, interactive African drumming, dance sessions and a story-time tent.

“We have a fantastic community of families and teaching staff at the Jan Juc Pre School. One of the aims of the festival is to strengthen connections between our kinder community and other families, local businesses and organisations,” Sarah said.

“We hope to grow the Kite Festival each year, so it not only becomes a flagship event for the Jan Juc Pre School, but one that locals and visitors look forward to coming back to year after year.

“People will be able to make a kite on the day, bring their own kite along or purchase one at the festival – we’d love to see the sky above Fishos filled with colourful kites. It should be really spectacular!”

The free festival will run 10am-2pm on October 22. For more information, head to surfcoastkitefestival.com.au or email [email protected].
