Lions Club of Lorne’s 45th Easter Art Show

March 17, 2016 BY

The Lions Club of Lorne was formed in 1969 and chartered in 1970. Since its establishment, the club members have worked tirelessly to provide financial and other support to worthy causes within Lorne and also to initiatives of Lions International.

This year in particular has been a very busy time for the small group of Lorne members, who have been very heavily involved in the Wye River and Separation Creek fire recovery effort. Approximately $80,000 has been spent so far, helping those who were impacted by these fires.

The Easter Art Show is the major fundraising event for the Lorne Lions each year. The entry fee for the gala opening on Thursday 24th March at 7pm is $20, which includes finger food and a glass of champagne. Paintings by popular artists often sell out on the opening night, so anyone interested in purchasing a piece of art should come along.

The 45th Annual Easter Art Show will be officially opened by Richard Riordan MP – Member for Polwarth. The show is open each day on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday from 10am until 5pm and on Monday 28th from 10am until 12 noon.

This event provides artists with a showcase for their work within five categories, with prizes for each category. Art buyers can view a vast selection of work with coastal themes being a popular subject. This year we have approximately 300 paintings from more than 90 artists.

Our judge this year is Karen Pegg. Karen works from her artist’s studio perched on a crest above her home in the Barrabool Hills, and is inspired by panoramic views across neighboring farmland to the growing city of Geelong and Corio Bay below her in the east, and the distant skyline of Melbourne to the north on a clear day. Many of her paintings and sculptures are commissioned by private art collectors from around Australia and overseas. She offers some works for sale in commercial galleries in Daylesford, and Aireys Inlet and regularly exhibits in group and solo shows in Melbourne and Geelong. She has been awarded several prizes over her long career.

Prizewinners will be announced at the official opening. The categories are: Best – Oil, Watercolour, Pastel, Acrylic and Other Medium. Visitors to the art show can vote on the artwork they deem to be the best in the show. The winner of this category will be announced on Monday March 28.

The Art Show offers interested parties the opportunity to sponsor all sections of the event. All money raised goes directly back into community projects. The event has a 45-year track record and offers sponsors a successful iconic event.

The Lions Club of Lorne welcomes new members. We meet on the first and third Thursday of the month.
Members work on fundraising projects which include barbecues, the iconic snowcone van on the foreshore over summer and there are many social occasions throughout the year. Involvement offers members the opportunity to assist their local community through fundraising and have fun at the same time. If you would like to enquire about sponsorship for the 2016 Art Show or you are interested in coming along to a Lions functions, please contact the president of the Lions Club of Lorne: Belinda Lance on 0429 127 303.
