Lions do the Elephant Walk

November 29, 2017 BY

A WORKING bee from Torquay Lions Club recently waded into the weeds as part of a cleanup of the Lions’ children’s playground at Elephant Walk.

Club member Phillip Newson had originally organised for some weeding to be done on the circular path to the peak of the small hill in the playground.

“That job took little time,” he said.

“But we noticed a strong exotic weed strangling native plants at the playground, so we removed those as well.”

Fellow Lion Lyndon Langan, who was part of the cleanup along with members Brian Fuller and Bob Tyler, said the work was done to help prepare the playground for the summer influx of youngsters who use the park daily.

“The Great Ocean Road Coast Committee does a great job with the foreshore and Torquay Lions have done considerable voluntary work under the guidance of GORCC.

“The playground, the Sundial, barbecue shelters and the fence along the clifftop are all projects Torquay Lions have been involved in over the years.”
