Lions give generously to Foundation 61
THE Torquay Lions Club has confirmed its support for Foundation 61, presenting $10,000 to the Mount Duneed rehabilitation centre in the second year of the partnership between the two organisations.
Torquay Lions president Tricia Blane said the funding was money well spent as it supported at least two clients at Foundation 61 while they rebuilt their broken lives.
“There are now 15 participants in Foundation 61’s program.
“Torquay Lions greatly appreciate the work done at Foundation 61 and we are proud to be able to help in some way.
“We have committed the club to support the centre for at least another three years.
“At the end of that time we will review our commitment and consider further support then.”
Foundation 61 program director Rob Lytzki is grateful for support from the community, and praised the Torquay Lions Club for its support of those who have drifted from mainstream society.
“Their situation has come about mainly from drugs and alcohol, but not exclusively,” he said.
“Because of the Torquay Lions’ continuing support, we are able to provide services to 15 participants and provide accommodation to two of them in rooms funded by the Lions.
“It is Torquay Lions’ annual gift that enables us to cover the accommodation costs of two participants, which then enables us to provide programs to all that we can manage at any one time.”
He said the money was not the only commitment from the Torquay Lions that helped.
“As well as the annual donation, we were able to provide a large outdoor pizza oven for our participants with funds raised from the community at the Lions’ Annual Bowls Day.
“We are very grateful for the support the Club gives to us.”
