Local builder lights the way with solar

December 6, 2017 BY

A partnership between Australia’s leading battery and solar provider, CSR Bradford, and Hamlan is set to see all new houses come equipped with a Bradford Solar ChargePack, including Tesla Powerwall 2, which offers backup energy to protect homes during power outages.

The partnership makes Hamlan the first builder in Geelong and the Surf Coast region to offer backup with the Tesla Powerwall as part of their standard inclusion, and comes at a time when homeowners across the country are waking up to solar and battery technology as a solution in the fight against rising power prices and the unreliability of the grid.

New home buyers with Hamlan – Geelong’s largest locally owned and operated builder – will be able to run their homes with a mix of free and low-cost energy, stored until they are ready to use it.

The world-leading renewable energy solution includes Tesla Powerwall, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that charges using electricity from Bradford solar panels.

With cloud-based monitoring from any smart device, Hamlan homeowners will be able to monitor and manage their energy, including charging from the grid during off-peak times.

Under the partnership, it is estimated that 150 homes will be equipped with the Bradford Solar ChargePack including Tesla Powerwall by the end of 2018. The system is expected to save each household on average $2,300 each year.

Hamlan Homes general manager Andrew Carroll said that the partnership with CSR Bradford was helping the iconic home builder change the face of the Great Ocean Road area again, this time by being a leader in household renewable energy solutions in Geelong and the Surf Coast region.

“We’re a family run business and most of our team have young children,” Andrew said.

“It’s part of our ethos to continue to build sustainably and to protect the environment for the future of our children.

“Going into the summer months, the sun is a part of the Geelong and Surf Coast playground.

“Powerwall offers our clients a working solar system that will charge the battery and provide electricity to power your home day or night.

“We see battery and solar technology as a perfect stepping stone to protecting the Geelong and Surf Coast landscape”.

CSR Bradford business manager Ashleigh O’Brien said that the agreement with Hamlan came at a great time for Geelong and Surf Coast residents, as heading into the summer months, power prices and energy reliability are set to move to centre stage again.

“The ability to store solar energy generated during the day for use at any time is becoming increasingly popular as Australians continue to search for solutions to rising power prices and unreliable sources of energy,” she said.

“As we saw across the country last summer, there is going to be a significant amount of pressure on the grid in the coming months.

“With Bradford Solar Charge Pack installed in their homes, Hamlan buyers will be able to draw electricity from their battery at night, powering their home with clean and sustainable energy 24/7.

“This is the future of household energy, where control goes back to the individual homeowners, increasing their independence from the grid and helping them to save thousands on their annual energy bills”.
