Locals to feast on secondhand clothing at Torquay creative studio
FEAST Studios in Torquay is hoping to bring locals out of the depths of winter to mingle and find some bargain buys at their inaugural Secondhand Clothing Market later this month.
Slated for July 22, the winter market pop-up will give secondhand clothing lovers the chance to get their hands on treasure from more than 20 local stallholders.
Feast Studios co-founder Georgia Dodd said the idea of having a clothing market inside their warm creative space perfectly lends itself to their mission of ‘our space, your place’.
“Everyone has secondhand clothing, and we certainly believe in the notion of recycling.
“We are all living in a scary and challenging sort of time, so to bring everyone into a space where they can get someone’s trash and turn it into their treasure is pretty cool.
“While secondhand clothing doesn’t necessarily come under the umbrella of a photography studio, it’s about bringing people together, which is what we are all about at Feast Studios” co-founder Lloyd Will added.
“We think it can really compliment things like the Farmers Market up in Torquay to give something for people to do, particularly in the depths of winter.”
Ms Dodd said hosting the secondhand clothing market fills a current gap in the market on the Surf Coast.
“There is so many in Melbourne, but the few which were here on the coast are now gone.
“Everyone loves a vintage/secondhand market, so we feel it fits a bit of a niche.
“It may be cold or wet outside, but something like this can gives locals a reason to get out of the house and be social.”
The Feast Studios duo said the long-term goal of the secondhand market is to run it every month to compliment other creative social events at the venue like art exhibitions and live music.
“We hope it’ll be the first of many and think it can be a successful and fun thing for the Surf Coast community,” Mr Will said.
“We’ve already been thrilled with how many people have enquired to buy a stall at the event.
“It’s now just about getting foot traffic and getting the word out for customers to come and enjoy it all.”
Feast Studios will have a coffee van, live music and food available on the day.
