Endurance Martial Arts owner and head instructor Alistair Lawson has been involved in Martial Arts since the age of six when he first started learning Judo.
Over time his interests took him to start up Taekwondo after seeing a Taekwondo student perform a spinning hook kick.
“Ironically when I saw that hook kick, it was that which made me hooked on learning Taekwondo” Alistair said.
“I find the speed, agility and countless kicking combinations really fun to learn and I love to help others discover the art and the passion I gained from it.
“Taekwondo is something that anyone can learn – from the young to the young-at-heart; it’s all about getting involved and trying to become the best you can be.”
These days 5th Dan Taekwondo Master and current Australian Taekwondo team member Alistair splits his time with teaching at his full-time club and pursuing his own Taekwondo training dreams.
“Teaching has always been something I have been passionate about as I have gained so much from Taekwondo so it is something I want to give back to,” Alistair explained.
“I want to help the next generation become inspired to live their dreams of achieving a Black Belt or competing at the Olympics.”
But Alistair has not put his own dreams aside as he still competes and is aiming at representing Australia in Korea for the 2022 World Taekwondo Championships.
“There are great lessons in Taekwondo and Martial Arts but nothing is as good as learning life skills – confidence, focus and discipline,” Alistair said.
“Anything you want in life takes discipline as often the pursuit of something takes time and over time your passion can be like a rollercoaster with many ups and downs; often the only thing that will keep you working towards your goals over time is being disciplined.”
This is a huge part of the Endurance Martial Arts kids programs – from Taekwondo Toddlers to Mini Kickers to Juniors – these programs, aimed at kids as young as three years old, teach life skills to achieve the right mindset to help achieve your dreams, become a better person and instill good discipline.
Through a program called the ‘Mini Masters Program’, kids can learn Taekwondo skills, stranger danger and self defence skills, as well as many other important life skills along the way.
As well as the strong Taekwondo programs at Endurance, there are now programs covering Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
“I am very happy to have been able to add Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to our timetable as people can now learn a variety of Martial Arts to cover all aspects of self defence and training all in the one place and under the one membership.” Alistair explained.
