Metricon’s pedal power helps cancer charity

April 28, 2022 BY

All funds raised will go towards young Australians affected by cancer.

After a gruelling five-day bike ride through Victoria of more than 568km, a team of Metricon cyclists has returned home after raising more than $222,000 for cancer charity Canteen.

The team comprising 24 riders left Metricon’s headquarters in Mount Waverley and rolled through towns in regional Victoria including Ballarat, Colac, Geelong, Torquay, Lorne Apollo Bay, and Rye.

The riders pushed themselves to their physical limits using pedal power to raise vital funds for young Australians affected by cancer.

Canteen provides free service support for young people aged 12-25 who have been diagnosed with cancer themselves or a family member, ensuring that no young person faces cancer alone.

The Metricon team has built on the last charity ride the team completed in 2019 by more than doubling the fundraising tally this year.

“This has been an incredible effort by all involved in raising funds for such a worthy and important cause who we have now been partnered with for the last three years,” Metricon director and Victorian general manager Peter Langfelder said after the cyclists had returned to Mount Waverley in late March

“We are incredibly grateful to all of the sponsors who have contributed so generously to such an important cause. On behalf of the business and riders, we are so proud to be able to undertake activities such as this one to help make a difference to young lives affected by cancer.”
Canteen chief executive officer Peter Orchard said five days of non-stop cycling was an incredible achievement.

“This ride is a wonderful initiative by the Metricon Victorian team. Thank you to everyone at Metricon and their trusted suppliers for taking on this challenge.

“Every dollar donated will make a huge difference to the life of young Australians impacted by cancer. It’s been a tough time for everyone, but for those dealing with cancer on top of COVID, life has been even tougher.

“Canteen has continued to support young people and their families, but we couldn’t have done it without Metricon’s ongoing and generous support. Your gift will make a big difference, with money raised going straight to our specialist counselling services to help young people find the emotional support they need to deal with cancer.”

Whether people are dealing with their own diagnosis, a close family member’s cancer or the loss of a loved one, Canteen provides:
– Connection with other young people in similar situations through events and programs
– Free counselling and individual support
– 24/7 online support communities for young people and parents, and
– Specialist treatment and support services for young cancer patients in hospital and then our teams help them with getting back on their feet.
– Donations are still being accepted – head to raiseit.org.au/event/metriconcycle-2022/home.
