Milling about at Little Creatures
Brewing on site at a sprawling historic former mill, Geelong’s Little Creatures Brewery blends innovative modernism with a nod to what came before it.
The brewery is built on the site of Geelong’s former Valley Worsted Mill – a 1920s textile mill with sawtooth red brick industrial buildings and a wonderful sense of history.
The mill’s striking art deco buildings remain, with the brewery working around them.
A network of roads and alleys lead visitors to the heart of the complex, The Little Creatures Canteen, which is housed in the mill’s former cloth finishing room, and styled with a mix of exposed brick and raw materials, with festive brightly coloured details.
As well as being a dining and bar space, it houses an art gallery for local artworks and doubles as a space for a local artisan market.
Using recycled elements wherever possible, the canteen’s bar is built inside the containers that were used to transport items for the brewery to Geelong, and the timber furniture is crafted from the pallets and skids also used during transport.
Featuring Little Creatures, White Rabbit and Rogers beers, the canteen complements fresh brews with a menu focusing on shareable fare that incorporates fresh, simple, and flavoursome foods.
Little Creatures’ latest seasonal beer, Dog Days, is now also on tap in the canteen.
Refreshing, crisp, and hoppy, the summer ale has peachy, tropical hop aromas and flavours as well as a resinous character to its bitey bitterness.
There are grassy aromas there too, in a beer that is essentially a refreshing mouthful of hops.
