ONE of Australia’s best-known comedians is bringing a cast of crowd-favourite characters to Geelong for a one-night-only show later this year.

Lawrence Mooney will take to the stage at Geelong Arts Centre on 12 September as part of his Full Moon Party tour.

The show will be dedicated to many of the alter egos that have become fan favourites on Channel Seven’s The Front Bar.

Audiences can expect appearances from AFL mindset coach Dr Tyler Wall, French chef de mission Jean Le Camembert and Port Adelaide tragic Gavin Muntberry, alongside Mooney’s impersonation of former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull.

The performance will see his most popular creations vying for the spotlight in an evening packed with sketches, impressions and comedy.

“This show speaks to an AFL audience particularly, but you certainly don’t need to be ofay with it to get enjoyment,” Mooney said.

“The references and characters are very universal. Everyone is familiar with that Tyler Wall – mind coaching double speak and sanctimonious language – and the wit of Malcolm Turnball.

“It’s sure to be a real home ground advantage being at Geelong, so I can’t wait to get started.”

Mooney credited The Front Bar team and fellow comedian Adam Rozenbachs with giving him the freedom to develop the characters that now form the backbone of the show.

“They’ve been incredible and just given me full license to go for it,” Mooney said.

“First it was Malcolm, then it was Broderick Curtis Wellington Smythe from the MCC, then came Jean, Tyler and Gavin.

“Really I’m doing live sketch on TV and it’s the only place on Australian television you can see that.

“I’m not shy of making the parallel between it and Saturday Night Live and I feel honoured to be doing it here in Australia and to have the faith of the guys.”
