New playground at Wurdale revealed
THE Surf Coast Shire has opened a $54,000 playground and picnic space in Wurdale.
The space at the Wurdale Hall Reserve includes something for all ages, with a collection of playground equipment, basketball and netball ring, picnic facilities with an electric barbecue, picnic table and landscaping with connecting paths made using recycled concrete.
The project came about from a community submission to the then-draft Surf Coast Shire Playground Strategy made during 2011.
Following the submission, the council and the community worked together to develop designs for a space that would bring more activity to the Wurdale Hall Reserve, complement the use of the hall and create a focal point for the community.
Cr Carol McGregor, who lives in Wurdale, said the project gave the town a space for social connection and interaction.
“Surf Coast Shire is a big area, and council puts a lot of effort into ensuring all our communities can enjoy improved facilities.
“It’s great to see the people of Wurdale and council working so constructively to make this happen.”
